The Ohio State Fair Sale of Champions livestock auction Sunday afternoon saw two records broken, one of which involved Logan County residents.
The grand champion swiss cheese produced by Pearl Valley Cheese Co. sold for $28,000 to A.G. Boogher and Sons of Santa Fe, a regular participant in the Junior Fair livestock sale at the Logan County Fair, and S&S Volvo and GMC Trucks. The cheese represents the seven dairy champions, including Logan County’s Kristopher Ackley, who exhibited the grand champion Holstein, and the supreme dairy showmen, who included Madeline Topp of Auglaize County and Kinley Topp of Shelby County. The exhibitors’ cap from the sale is $3,000 each.
The other record-setting sale was the $33,000 paid by Bob Evans Farms, Kale Marketing, Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, Ohio Farm Bureau, Event Marketing Strategies and Huffman’s Market for Grant Adams’ reserve champion market barrow. The Mercer County exhibitor’s cap is $7,000.
Also representing Logan County at the Sale of Champions was Ava Shroyer of DeGraff, who exhibited the grand champion market goat purchased for $11,000 by Kroger. Her share of the sale is capped at $5,000.
