Penny Gordon McCarthy, 74, of Bellefontaine, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Penny was born Aug. 31, 1943, in Cleveland, to the late John Robert and Eileen Kraus Gordon. On July 5, 1963, she married Robert McCarthy in Adrian, Mich., and he survives.
She worked 18 years in Quality at Harding Machine and served as an EMT in Bokescreek Township. She was involved in the Eagles Auxiliary 2166 where she was a past Madam President and was the first Senior Regent of the Bellefontaine Women of the Moose. She enjoyed Friday breakfast with the ladies from Kamp-A-Lot, bowling, golfing and camping, and loved spending time with family and friends.
Penny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed.
Also surviving are her children, Kim (Dan) Kerns, Kelly (Mark) McCarthy, Karen (Jeremy) Gerrard, Konnie (Todd) McCarthy, Kris (Ross) Robson and Robert (Sebrina) McCarthy; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Roach and Dianne (Howard) Brubaker; sisters-in-law, Sharon Kolat and Jean Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Gordon; and grandchildren, Britany and Brandon Kerns.
A celebration of life gathering is from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield, with a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. by the Eagles 2166 Ladies Auxillary. A dinner follows at West Mansfield United Methodist Church, 212 E. Center St., West Mansfield, where food donations can be received from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Universal Home, Health and Hospice.
