Mark Barrett, 20, of Defiance, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, and two of his passengers also were placed under arrest.
Breanna Williams, 23, of Defiance, was charged with tampering with evidence, illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility and persistent disorderly conduct, and Justin Stone, 20, also of Defiance, was charged with persistent disorderly conduct.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 33 and west Wilgus Drive reportedly stopped a vehicle for speed and no license plate lights.
When officers approached the vehicle, they observed signs of impairment by all occupants. Officers asked Barrett to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. When he was placed under arrest, his passengers became irate and belligerent and reportedly started cussing at officers.
Both Williams and Stone were given an opportunity to leave, but they refused to listen to the officer’s requests and Williams began throwing various items into the ditch, including her cell phone. She continued to yell and scream when the tow company arrived, and reportedly targeted the tow truck driver.
After several requests to stop and leave the area, Williams was placed under arrest for persistent disorderly conduct. She reportedly struck the sides of the cruiser and windows while being detained.
Stone reportedly began throwing items into the roadway and walking onto U.S. 33 into oncoming traffic. After ignoring officers’ requests to stop this behavior several times, he was placed under arrest.
At the Logan County Jail, the defendants were processed using the new body scanner and corrections officers detected a large item concealed inside Williams. She eventually removed the item, which was identified as drug paraphernalia still containing drugs.
Both Williams and Stone were placed in restraint chairs due to their persistent combative behavior.
Also at the jail, Mark Barrett refused to submit to a chemical test. He also was cited for speed and a license plate light violation.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources officers assisted at the scene.
