Tommy J. “Tom” Shaner, 62, of Jackson Center, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 17, 2016, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
Tom was born in Lima on Oct. 9, 1954, to the late Roy A. and Martha L. Metz Shaner. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rita Maddy, and his mother-in-law, Doris Snider.
A 1972 graduate of Jackson Center High School, Tom was a lifelong farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the Wapakoneta Eagles and a social member of the Jackson Center VFW. Tom was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and spent 40-plus years playing dartball with church members. Tom retired from the Jackson Center Volunteer Fire Department.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pam Snider Shaner of Jackson Center; two step-daughters, Dawn King of Vandalia and Shannon (Andrew) Pierce of Columbus; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Marcia (Dan) Burch of Lewistown; and a brotherm Rick (Patricia) Shaner of Ketchikan, Alaska; several nieces and nephews; a brother-in-lawm Tom Maddy of Port Jefferson; and his father-in-lawm Donald Snider of Wapakoneta.
Pastor David Sanders will officiate a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Montra, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be in Emanuel Cemetery at a later date.
