Dana L. Baker, 84, of Mt. Victory, died at 7:11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Union County on April 12, 1932, he was a son of the late Elizabeth J “Betty” and Ray H. Baker. A brother, Donny, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, the former Norma Gray whom he married April 6, 1952; a son, Dennis (Cheryl) and his children, Haley (Mike) Gann and Lori (Joel) Reffner; a son, Gary (Julie) and his daughter, Meredith; a son, Kevin, (Leisha) and his children, Justin and Lauren (James) Holder; great-grandchildren, Riley, Elliot and Harlow Gann and Cambelle and Keller Reffner; and a sister, Beverly (Wright) Shearer.
Sergeant Dana Baker served in the U.S. Army from 1952-54.
Dana’s true calling was to be a insurance agent and financial planner. He was a member of the Midwest Life Presidents Club, Life Investors Presidents Club and was Life Investor’s Insurance Company Man of the Year in 1983. He was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable.
He was a lifelong member of the Ohio Archeological Society and served as its president from 1974 to 1978.
He has been a member of the Mt. Victory Methodist Church since 1948.
He made nine trips to western Africa including Mali, Ivory Coast, Togo and Ghana where he made lifelong friends providing many of them with food, clothing, housing and education.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, in the Mt. Victory Methodist Church in Mt. Victory. Lunch will be served in the basement of the church following the memorial service and his family will receive friends after the service during the luncheon.
