A suspect was arrested for threatening his spouse and refusing to comply with law enforcement following a domestic disturbance that occurred about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Russells Point.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department report Joshua Phillips, 35, of 152 Bristol Circle, made several violent threats to his wife, including that he wanted to kill her.
The suspect’s wife, Amanda Salyer, told police her husband became violent and threatening earlier in the day after she had picked him up from a rehabilitation center.
According to a police report, he threatened to kill her, claiming if he was to go back to jail, it would be, “for something good.” He also reportedly attempted put the car in park while it was still in motion.
Once home, Phillips sent text messages to another individual claiming he felt like killing someone and going back to prison, police report.
The suspect was combative with police on their arrival, and refused to comply with officers.
He had to be forced into a patrol car, and then started kicking at windows, and was forcibly restrained with leg restraints en route to the Logan County Jail.
Phillips was charged with a felony count of domestic violence and resisting arrest. Jail staff report the suspect remained combative and had to be placed in a restraint chair once at the jail.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
Driver charged with OVI after seeking treatment at hospital A driver was charged with drunk driving after smashing his pickup truck into a utility pole in Russells Point early Sunday morning.
Rodney Burnside II, 44, of Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, failure to control and leaving the scene of a crash around 8:30 a.m. Sunday shortly after seeking treatment for his injuries at Mary Rutan Hospital.
Officers report the crash occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 700 block of South Orchard Island Road. When police arrived at the scene, they report the airbags were deployed, but no one was around.
Burnside reportedly told police he had no recollection of the crash.
Witnesses told police Burnside was seen at the Village Pantry gas station, 209 State Route 708, Russells Point, shortly before the crash. Police also noted the injuries for which the suspect was seeking treatment were consistent with a car crash.
Police identified the vehicle’s registered owner as Burnside, but did not make contact with him until he sought treatment at the hospital for what were minor injuries.
