Robert A. Shafer, 69, of DeGraff, passed away at 4:22 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at Green Hills Retirement Community, West Liberty.
He was born in Cincinnati on Aug. 9, 1946, to the late Gilbert Wayne and Opal Barlag Shafer.
On March 3, 1973, he married the former Phyllis A. Jackson in Quincy and she preceded him in death Feb. 8, 2007. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Al Barlag; stepmother, Florence Shafer; and a sister, Sharon Cobb.
He is survived by his daughter, Bridgette Owens; six stepchildren, Stephanie (Merle) Orsborne, Jeff (Bev) Wick, Greg (Julie) Wick, Scott (Marilyn) Wick, Dawn Dunn and Missy McNutt; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Pat Cutter, Judy (Robert) Filoso and Lisa (Randy) McKeehan; two brothers, Barry (Marybeth) Shafer and Tony Shafer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A retired truck driver for Clark Trucking in Marysville, he was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan, and enjoyed repairing small engines, fishing, hunting and following NASCAR.
Pastor Frank James officiates a memorial service at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes St., DeGraff, where visitation is one hour prior. Burial follows in Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
