Royce K. Smith, 23, of Marion, was charged with trafficking in drugs, discharging a weapon in a prohibited area, concealed carry weapons permit violation, inducing panic, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 1:15 p.m. to the area of State Route 47 and County Road 9 in reference to a man that was observed walking eastbound on S.R. 47 and had reportedly fired a pistol in the air.
Deputies arrived and located Mr. Smith walking along S.R. 47. A search of his person and a backpack he was carrying recovered a pistol, marijuana, heroin, cash, and drug paraphernalia, including needles, a digital scale, marijuana grinder and baggies. He also was in possession of three cell phones, deputies noted.
The defendant was taken into custody and a records check also revealed that he was wanted on a warrant from Marion County for drug trafficking. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
C.R. 55 crash victim identified
Deputies report that William J. Jarman, 20, of Bellefontaine, was the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a previously reported injury crash Tuesday morning.
He reportedly was operating a northbound vehicle on County Road 55 south of County Road 10 when he struck a deer and went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree stump. The vehicle then overturned and came to rest in a field.
Mr. Jarman was transported by MedFlight helicopter to the OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. Deputies continue to investigate this crash.
• Jeremy L. Zwiebel, 29, of St. Paris, was cited for improper passing following a non-injury crash about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on County Road 142.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound pickup near C.R. 10 and attempted to pass a northbound car operated by Austin Mabry, 27, of Raymond. The car started to make a left-hand turn into a private drive, and was struck by the pickup.
Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Summons issued for littering
Trinity L. Fisher, 26, of 111 N. Boggs St., DeGraff, was issued a summons for littering Tuesday.
Deputies met with Ms. Fisher about 10 a.m. at the Logan County Solid Waste Management District facility to follow up on a trash dumping complaint received Thursday. Trash that was found along Township Road 229 near S.R. 47 reportedly belonged to Ms. Fisher.
Attempted burglary investigated
Deputies were dispatched about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday to the Rose E. Couchot residence, 10406 County Road 17, Santa Fe, Wapakoneta, in reference to an attempted burglary.
Family members heard a loud bang at a door of the residence and when they went to investigate, they found the door kicked open and observed a man running from the residence.
