Marvin E. Chism, 79, of Texas and formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Rosewood Nursing & Rehab Center in Killeen, Texas.
Marv was born in Rushsylvania on January 26, 1942, to the late Paul Meredith and Catherine (Shafer) Chism. He was also preceded in death by a brother David Chism.
Marv married Sharon Sue Moyer on March 28, 1965, and she survives in Killeen, Texas. He is also survived by a son Paul (Gale) Chism of Bellefontaine; daughter Meredith (Dave) Groves of Sidney; six grandchildren: Maryann (Kelby) Wallace, Brian Crowley, Joseph Slavin, Teighlor Chism, Melissa Groves, and Andrew Groves; nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzi, Damian, Jayce, Amira, Paizlyn, Dominic, Marilyn, Aria, and Violet; a sister-in-law Kitty Chism of Arkansas; and nieces and nephews: Krista Chism of Denver, Doug Chism of Virginia, Paula (Don) Nash of Huntsville, and Jan (Dan) Whetstone of Iowa.
A veteran of the US Army, Marv retired as a letter carrier from the United States Postal Service. He loved sports and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan. Marv enjoyed watching golf, especially Phil Mickelson. He bowled at TP Lanes for many years. Marv was a member of Eagles Arie #2166 – PWP,PDO; and Indian Lake AmVets. He also loved to sing and was a member of SPEBSQSA, Loganairre Chapter, Singing Buckeyes, and Diamond State Chorus in Arkansas. Marv was a member of Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church where he also sang in the Chancel Choir. Marv enjoyed life, but especially going golfing with Paul and Dave, and doing things with his family.
Marv’s greatest accomplishment was his family and his hole-in-one at Cherokee Hills.
A celebration of Marv’s life will be conducted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
