Indian Lake Schools officials reported Monday that the district has confirmed its first positive COVID-19 case, and stated that the case relates to an individual at Indian Lake Elementary School.
The families of the few students who were in direct contact with the individual have already been notified, district officials said.
“This communication is intended to inform families, not to alarm them, so we kindly ask that you do not panic,” Superintendent Rob Underwood said in a message to district families and the community Monday, shared via all-call and the district’s website and Facebook page.
“COVID is among us all the time and we expect that there will be more cases throughout the school year. However, we have many practices in place to limit the spread and to keep our students safe.”
Underwood said the shared public information is not a notice of quarantine, but rather an awareness for parents to continue to check their children’s temperatures and monitor for symptoms on a daily basis. Children should stay home from school and activities when ill.
“At this time, it is not necessary for child to be tested for COVID-19. If your child requires testing or quarantine, an official from the Health Department will contact you,” the superintendent said.
If anyone in the home develops symptoms of the virus, residents are advised to call their primary care provider or the Logan County Health District’s COVID-19 call center, open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 937-592-9040 option 1.
