Residents’ photos of icon include 10 inches of snow in May, mystery of missing tower
Willie Yoder of West Liberty holds a photo of the Logan County Courthouse after 10 inches of snow fell 135 years ago today. The piece is framed in oak wood form the original courtroom, made available during the current restoration project. ALSO PICTURED IN MONDAY’S EXAMINER: A photo from the lat 1870s or 1880s found in the collection of Dorothy Allison Cummings appears to be of the Logan County Courthouse with no tower.The photo, however, is likely an incomplete exposure, according to local historians.
With 2018 marking both the Logan County Bicentennial celebration and the anticipated reopening of the Logan County Courthouse after a six-year renovation project, several residents have been dusting off their historic photos of the county’s most iconic building.
A pair of sisters looking through their grandmother’s old photos came across an interesting shot in which it appears the courthouse has no tower, while a West Liberty octogenarian showed off a photo made in late May 1883, in which the courthouse is blanketed with fresh fallen snow.
