It was more of the same for West Liberty-Salem at this year’s Ohio Heritage Conference meet.
The WL-S girls team won their 12th consecutive OHC title, while the boys squad won its fourth straight league crown.
The meet was Tuesday and Thursday and hosted by the Tigers.
The Lady Tigers rolled to the OHC North division championship with 182 points. Fairbanks was second (145.5), Triad was third (91), Mechanicsburg finished fourth (65.5), Northeastern was fifth (22) and West Jefferson took sixth (11).
“With the wind and rain, we knew times and performances would be off, so we really focused on competing and trying to place higher than our seed,” said WL-S girls head coach Ann Vogel. “Our girls were really scrappy tonight and fought for every point and I’m proud of the energy and determination they showed. Winning a conference title is always important to our program and the boys winning it as well, was icing on the cake.”
Delaney Jones led the way for the Lady Tigers by winning the 100-meter dash in a new OHC record time of 12.23, the 200 (26.60) and the long jump (17-5).
Jones was also a part of the winning 400 relay team with Tori Douthwaite Gwen McCullough and Chloe Griffith (51.41).
Also placing first for WL-S were Sophia Hardwick in the 300 hurdles (48.38) and Malia Miller in the 3,200 (11:51.53).
Second-place finishers for the Tigers included Claire Longshore in the 100 hurdles (16.45), Mallory Bostick in the 400 (1:01.95), the 800 relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Hattie Jacobs, Claire Longshore and McCullough (1:51.92) and the 1,600 relay team of Ashley Yoder, McCullough, Longshore and Bostick (4:20.25).
Placing third for the Lady Tigers were Sophia Hardwick in the 100 hurdles (16.59), Longshore in the 300 hurdles (49.92), McCullough in the 800 (2:32.66), Tori Douthwaite in the 200 (28.71) and Yoder in the 3,200 (12:14.72).
Fourth-place finishers for WL-S included Chloe Griffith in the 100 (12.95), Malia Miller in the 1,600 (5:27.19), Addie McAuley in the 800 (2:39.09) and Lyndee Harrison in the shot put (29-3).
Adding fifth-place finishes for the Lady Tigers were McAuley in the 1,600 (5:41.80) and Yoder in the 400 (1:03.78).
In the boys North division meet, the Tigers won with 164 points. Mechanicsburg was second (149), Northeastern third (72), Triad fourth (51), West Jefferson fifth (45) and Fairbanks sixth (42).
OHC champions for the Tigers included Jackson Steider in the 110 hurdles (16.06), Troy Bradley in the 400 (52.9), Taryn Bradley in the 300 hurdles (43.31), the 800 relay team of Lincoln Henderson, Gabe McGill, Lauck and Jack Bahan (1:34.87), the 400 relay team of Henderson, Bahan, McGill and Steider (45.40) and the 1,600 relay team of Henderson, Lauck, Louden and Bradley (1:41.53).
Runner-up finishes went to Mark Bair in the shot put (48-2.75) and discus (142-8), Steider in the 300 hurdles (45.70), Bahan in the 200 (23.6), Craig Stanford in the pole vault (12-0) and the 3,200 relay team of Troy Bradley, Quentin Rudolph, Asher Knox and Dylan King (8.24).
Placing third for the Tigers were Bahan in the 100 (11.15), Asher Knox in the 1,600 (4:40.76) and 3,200 (10:03.17), Brevin Louden in the 400 (54.26), Slayde Merriman in the pole vault (12-0) and Rudolph in the 800 (2:05.47).
Taking fourth were Taryn Bradley in the 110 hurdles (17.51), Dylan King in the 1,600 (4:41.10) and Troy Bradley in the 200 (24.31).
Finishing in fifth were Joey LaRoche in the 800 (2:09.26), King in the 3,200 (10:16.08) and Casey Boyer in the high jump (5-4).
Adding sixth-place finishes for the Tigers were Bryant Eaton in the discus (108-8) and Hunter Knotts in the high jump (5-2).
