Charles “Charlie” L. Beale, 78, of rural Roundhead, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 24, 1937, in St. Marys, to the late Leroy and Mable Schmeal Beale. He was preceded in death by two half-brothers, Bill Beale and Bob Beale.
On Aug. 3, 1962, he married the former Dorothy Gipperich in Halifax, N.C., and she survives, along with five children, John (Patty) Beale and Thomas (Susan) Beale, both of Belle Center, Donald (Donna) Beale of Huntsville, Daniel (Sherri) Beale of Kenton and Belinda (Tony) England of Bellefontaine; 12 grandchildren, Brandy, Krystal, Taylor, Kiley, Matthew, Jessica, Michael, Justin, Kaitlyn, Caleb, Courtney and Ty; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jayse and Addison; and a brother, Clark (Thelma) Beale of Lima.
A 1955 graduate of Roundhead High School, he enlisted in the United States Army shortly after graduation and served 20 years as a military policeman, retiring in 1975 at the rank of platoon sergeant. He then went to work in security for General Dynamics for 21 years. Charlie currently was serving as quartermaster with the Roundhead VFW Post 8832, where he was a past commander, was named outstanding commander twice and was a former coach of the post’s softball team. He was a member of Harold Kerr American Legion Post 173 in Bellefontaine, and was a life member of Kenton AMVETS Post 1994. He was a former member of the Roundhead Volunteer Fire Department.
Michael Armentrout begins a funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, with VFW honors provided by the Roundhead VFW at 7:45 p.m. Burial is in Roundhead Cemetery with military honors by the Kenton AMVETS Post 1994 Honor Guard and United States Army.
