Aaron H. Holycross, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away Friday, July 29, 2016, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
Born Oct. 5, 1924, in Union County, he was a son of the late Isaac and Jennie Reames Holycross.
He married the former Ruth I. Guisinger and she preceded him in death Nov. 20, 2015. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn McMahon; a son, Mark Holycross; sisters, Alice Davis, Agnes Murray and Betty Black; brothers, Charles and Raymond Holycross; and brothers-in-law, Richard, Vere, Woody, Maurice and Herb.
Surviving are his children, Ron (Gail) Mitchell of Manchester, New Hampshire, Pam (Jerry) Pittman of Bellefontaine, Gene (Carol DeWine) Holycross of Bellefontaine and Gary (Christine) Holycross of Ridgeway; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Donald (JoAnn) Holycross, Carroll (Sally) Holycross, Darrell (Pat) Holycross, Tempa (Delmar) Cox, Shirley Johnson, Ruth Ann Wooddell and Mary Lou McCoy; sisters-in-law, Jackie and Lois Holycross; and son-in-law, Steve McMahon of Mt. Vernon.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Aaron served his county during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 173 in Bellefontaine and the Ridgeway Church of Christ, where he was baptized with his wife. He spent his career working at Super Foods/GMS and later Nash Finch, retiring in 1986.
Cory Savage officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Mannasmith-Schnurrenberger Funeral Home, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield, where visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Burial is at Greenlawn Cemetery, West Mansfield.
