Three people were transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of injuries after a vehicle crashed into a parking lot and struck several parked vehicles Saturday afternoon at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1910 County Road 130.
The driver of the vehicle, Drake W. Newland, 25, of Bellefontaine, was transported by Robinaugh EMS to the hospital for treatment of suspected serious injuries in the 1:40 p.m. crash, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
One of the parked vehicles damaged in the crash was occupied by two people. Those occupants are: Alice L. Strawser, 78, and William Bauman, 76, of both of Rushsylvania, each of whom were transported by Bellefontaine EMS to the hospital. Strawser reported minor injuries and Bauman sustained possible injuries.
Deputies report Newland was operating a northbound 1995 Chevrolet Silverado on C.R. 130 when he slid out of control and went off the left side of the road. He then overcorrected and went off the right side of the road, striking two street signs and then entering the parking lot, striking a parked 1997 Honda CR-V occupied by Strawser and Bauman.
The Newland vehicle continued across the parking lot and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. The impact sent that second vehicle, a 2003 Honda Odyssey owned by Karen Corral of Bellefontaine, into a tree.
A fourth parked vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Carol Hartley of Bellefontaine, was unoccupied and sustained light damage from vehicle debris, earth and broken glass during the crash.
The Newland vehicle and the two vehicles he hit sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.
Newland was cited for failure to control and was wearing his seat belt. Bauman and Strawser also were wearing seat belts, deputies said.
