Motorist charged with OVI
Elizabeth L. Hardesty, 39, of 354 Belle Meadows Drive, was charged Sunday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. She also was issued a traffic ticket for speeding.
Shortly before 2 a.m., an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol on Main Street near Lake Avenue used radar to track Hardesty’s southbound station wagon at 55 mph in a 35-mph zone.
The officer turned around and initiated a stop on Richard Avenue.
Upon contact, the officer detected an odor of alcohol coming from Hardesty. Her eyes were bloodshot and glossy and her speech was slurred, the officer reported.
Furthermore, she was unsteady on her feet when she exited the vehicle to talk further with the officer.
Field sobriety tests indicated she was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested. She declined to provide a breathalyzer sample.
She was unable to call anyone for a ride home and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Woman cited for leaving crash scene
Natasha K. Mays, 44, of Bellefontaine, was issued traffic citations for failure to control and leaving the scene of a crash after she met with officers on Friday.
She told them she did not realize she had hit a parked sport utility vehicle in the 400 block of east Lake Avenue around 10 p.m. Wednesday. She claimed she swerved after a dog crossed into the path of eastbound her vehicle and was struck.
She returned Thursday and spoke with Connor S. Schweinfurth, 412 E. Lake Ave., the owner of the SUV. He, in turn, passed on her contact information to officers and they met with her on Friday.
Officers noted significant damage to her car but did not find any evidence the car hit a dog. Damage to the SUV was light.
