Benjamin Logan Middle School seventh-grader Wyatt Gordon won the school’s annual spelling bee by correctly spelling the word “perdition” in the ninth round.
Holly Coaty, also a seventh-grader, was runner up with the word “coronation”.
Wyatt is a son of Eric and Summer Gordon, and Holly is a daughter of Jeff and Christy Coaty.
Both Wyatt and Holly have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee at Riverside Schools, slated for 6 p.m. Jan. 20.
Wyatt will take an online spelling and vocabulary test in January to possibly advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The spelling bee featured 38 participants and was moderated by Amanda Davis, Benjamin Logan teacher. Sally Stolly and Susan Headings served as judges and fifth-grade ELA teacher Bobby Gill organized the spelling bee event.
