A Mechanicsburg man was arrested on a theft charge after pushing a cart with more than $755 in merchandise out of Walmart, 2281 S. Main St., on Monday afternoon.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were called to the store about 3:10 p.m. and met with a loss prevention officer who said a man had pushed a cart of merchandise out of the store through the lawn and garden area and then returned inside where he used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for merchandise.
The store security employee was able to get a license number and authorities in Champaign County were advised to be on the lookout for the vehicle. It was stopped in Urbana by deputies of the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the driver was transported back to Bellefontaine and identified as Jacob A. Bradley, 25, of Mechanicsburg.
He was questioned and said he never left the store with the merchandise. The loss prevention officer confirmed the merchandise was located just outside the lawn and garden area.
Mr. Bradley was charged with theft and taken to the Logan County Jail.
