A .5 mill levy to pay for current operating expenses was approved Monday in a regular meeting of the West Liberty Village Council.
Voters in the village will be asked again in November to pass the property tax, which raises about $120,000 each year to pay for current operating expenses within the village.
Logan County Auditor Mike Yoder attended Monday’s meeting to certify the estimated amounts, and to help council with the necessary paperwork to get the levy on the ballot.
November will be the first opportunity for council to ask voters to renew the levy. The current tax is set to expire at the end of 2017, Mr. Yoder said.
A curb and gutter ordinance passed its first reading, as council prepares for replacements between the 400 block of north Detroit Street and south toward the monument, according to council.
Maier Concrete has been awarded the work, at a projected cost of about $79,000. Property owners will have the costs assessed to them at a rate of $16 per foot.
Also approved Monday was a $5,700 cost estimate from Rabenstein Electric to replace all 72 of the village’s traffic lights with more energy efficient LED lights.
