COLLINS |
A man’s whining that local jail time would cost him his job found himself facing prison time instead Monday in Logan County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Mark S. O’Connor warned Jason Collins, 37, of Portsmouth, that if he continued to complain about the local jail sentence his lengthy record of prior convictions warranted a prison sentence.
Mr. Collins, who was being sentenced for a fifth-degree felony vandalism of government property, ignored the warning of the judge and the advice of his attorney and persisted in his argument that spending 60 days in the Logan County Jail would mean he would lose his job.
Judge O’Connor then handed down the 11-month prison sentence. He can apply for judicial release after serving at least a month in the institution.
He originally was charged with theft of a motor vehicle for taking a car owned by James Cunningham, 234 E. Harrison St., Lakeview, on Jan. 16. After leaving the residence, he crashed the car and was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
During transport to the Logan County Jail, he kicked at the inside of the cruiser and caused damage to the door.
He was ordered to pay $1,000 restitution to the Cunninghams.
