West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team used a big fourth-quarter effort to seal a 63-45 win over visiting Mechanicsburg on Saturday in Ohio Heritage Conference play.
The Tigers stay undefeated at 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the OHC, while the Indians suffer their first loss at 5-1, 4-1.
WL-Salem held a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and edged M’burg 12-10 in the second quarter. That gave the Tigers a 27-23 advantage at halftime.
The Indians matched the Tigers in the third quarter 15-15, but still trailed 42-38. WL-Salem put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 21-7 run.
Selena Weaver powered the Tigers with a double-double, scoring 31 points with 15 rebounds. Grace Estes tallied 12 points, Emily Hollar had six points with five assists and four steals and Hallie Smith added six points.
WL-Salem also took the junior varsity game 47-33. Caitlyn King led the Tigers with 11 points and Megan Hollar had 10 points. WL-Salem hosts Greeneview on Thursday for its next OHC contest.
