West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team stayed unbeaten Thursday after holding off host West Jefferson 41-38 in Ohio Heritage Conference play.
The Tigers stay perfect at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the OHC standings, while the Roughriders slide to 4-1, 3-1.
A big first quarter saw WL-Salem take a 14-9 lead. The Tigers edged the Roughriders 9-7 in the second quarter to build a 23-16 halftime lead.
West Jefferson matched WL-Salem in the third quarter 11-11, which kept the Tigers ahead 34-27. The Roughriders had an 11-7 run in the fourth quarter, but were unable to catch the Tigers.
Selena Weaver fueled WL-Salem’s offense with 15 points and 12 rebounds, Grace Estes had 13 points and four assists and Emily Hollar added six points with three steals.
In junior varsity action, WL-Salem dropped West Jefferson 41-25. Mandilyn Weaver led the Tigers with 12 points. WL-Salem hosts Mechanicsburg on Saturday for another key OHC matchup.
