Riverside’s girls basketball team was one step behind host Lehman Catholic on Thursday as the Cavaliers held on for a 42-36 Northwest Central Conference win.
The Pirates fall to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the NWCC, while the Cavaliers are now 3-1, 2-0.
Lehman Catholic was two points better (9-7) in the first quarter and edged Riverside 12-11 in the second quarter. That gave the Cavaliers a 21-18 advantage entering halftime.
In the third quarter, Lehman Catholic outscored Riverside 9-5, giving the Cavs a 30-23 lead. The Pirates were able to take the fourth quarter 13-12, but couldn’t take over the lead.
Kirstin Schlumbohm led the Pirates with 12 points, Lauryn Sanford had 10 points and Jade Copas chipped in with six points. Riverside travels to Ben Logan on Monday for a local non-league game.
