Winona Laonta “Lonnie” Coder, 90, of West Mansfield, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Union County surrounded by her family.
She was a 1944 graduate of West Mansfield High School and growing up a farmer’s daughter, she was instilled with values of hard work and family.
Proving this during WWII, when her brothers went off to serve their country, Winona jumped right in to help her family on the farm that summer. When the harvest season was over, she went to work for Harding Machine and then the Telephone Company in West Mansfield.
Her biggest joy came being a loving homemaker to her husband, children and grandchildren. She served as a Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, loved following horse racing, especially watching Cam Coder race. She enjoyed crocheting and reading and cherished watching any sporting event of her grandchildren.
Born April 14, 1926, in Zanesfield, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Hazel Deardorff Titus. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, John Titus, Vilda Wolever, Gleston Titus and Patricia Elliot.
Surviving is her husband of 70 years, George Edward Coder, whom she married November 22, 1946, in Kentucky; her children, Tony (Anna) Coder of Bellefontaine, Susan (Itaru) Norris-Fujiwara of Marysville and Beverly (Rick) Tudor of Big Springs; her grandchildren, Tony (Pragati) Coder Jr., Lisa (Brian) Perry, Stacey (Jeremiah) Miller, Bryan (Autumn) Norris, Joshua (Ashley) Tudor and Jennifer (Kris) Tudor; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Catherine Chamberlain of Bellefontaine.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Big Springs United Methodist Church, Rushsylvania. Pastor Douglas Thompson will officiate and burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, West Mansfield. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Wilson Funeral Home-Schnurrenberger Chapel, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
