The United Way of Logan County hosts its fifth annual corporate work day — Community Care Day — Friday, Aug. 28, which kicks off at 8 a.m. at the Bellefontaine Regional Airport, 3700 W. State Route 47.
The unique, safe, socially-distanced drive-in launch event also serves as the 2020 United Way campaign kickoff, where participants will remain in their vehicles for the duration of the brief program at the airport.
A group from the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Bellefontaine is preparing a complimentary “to-go” breakfast for all volunteers.
“Our fifth annual corporate work day on Friday, Aug. 28, will look and feel a little different,” United Way officials said. “A ‘drive-in’ launch. Face coverings. Social distancing. But the same great impact! Volunteers will share the excitement, camaraderie, team-building, and good feelings that come with working together.”
At this time, the event is sold out, and additional volunteers cannot be registered, officials note.
Attendees are asked to tune their car radios to 96.5 FM when they arrive to hear the program from their seats.
After the brief program, participants will disburse to job locations by 8:30 a.m.
Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt to wear while working, and are asked to wear it throughout the activities so that they will be identified as a United Way volunteer when entering local agencies and parks.
Participants also are asked to take a school supply donation for the Stuff the Bus school supply drive; their waiver form; and a mask.
Those uncomfortable or unable to attend the gathering have the option to skip the breakfast and report directly to the location of their service project.
The Team Leader who registered each group has already selected the project the group will be working on.
Community Care Day occurs rain or shine. More than half of the projects this year are not weather dependent. The decision to postpone or cancel the project at your location is up to participant’s discretion and that of the recipient organization.
