Two men were charged during a 7 p.m. traffic stop Wednesday, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report.
Brandon L. Miller, 27, of 1101 W. Columbus Ave., Apt. A, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and illegal possession of a prescription drug while Andrew J. Claybaugh, 34, at large, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments.
An officer on patrol near Water Avenue and Plumvalley Street observed the driver of a westbound sport utility vehicle failed to properly signal a northbound turn. A traffic stop was initiated after the SUV traveled north and then west onto Auburn Avenue.
Miller was driving and Claybaugh was reportedly laying motionless across the rear passenger seat. Miller did not have proof of insurance and the tags to the vehicle were registered to the previous owner.
Officers asked about contraband inside the SUV and Miller said there was none
The department’s canine team arrived on scene and Miller was told the team was going to check the outside of the vehicle to confirm no drugs were inside.
He asked to get out of the SUV and then ordered out when he initially refused. Claybaugh also exited the vehicle and both men were searched by officers.
Methamphetamine was found on Miller. Claybaugh’s bookbag contained a digital scale, small baggies with drug residue, snorting straws, a pipe for abusing methamphetamine and a hypodermic syringe.
A partial film strip of a prescription opioid treatment drug was found in the SUV.
Both men were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
