Both directions of State Route 347 were shut down for a time Wednesday afternoon, March 13, following a three-vehicle crash that hospitalized an adult and a child and resulted in two of the vehicles involved catching fire.
Amy Basinger, 57, of East Liberty, and a juvenile passenger were each transported by Perry Township EMS to Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, troopers from the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
Bassinger reportedly was stopped facing northeast on S.R. 347 at County Road 154 around 3:30 p.m. in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, waiting to turn left with her signal on when she was struck from behind by a 2009 Toyota Tacoma operated by Erick Colman-Fernandez, 23, of Columbus.
Coleman-Fernandez failed to maintain assured clear distance and struck the Bassinger vehicle, troopers said, and the impact from the collision caused the Tacoma to cross the lane marker and clip the trailer of a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia, operated by Marvin Roberts, 54, of East Liberty.
After the collision, both passenger vehicles caught on fire. All parties were able to exit the vehicles and make it to safety.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Ohio Division of Natural Resources Wildlife Division, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Township Fire and EMS, Allen Township EMS, Ace’s High Towing, and Dad’s Towing.
