West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team kept its perfect record intact Tuesday with a 40-34 win over host Jonathan Alder during a non-league contest.
The Tigers are now 10-0 on the season, while the Pioneers suffer their first loss at 4-1.
Jonathan Alder started off in front with an 8-7 lead after the first quarter. WL-Salem got its offense going in the second quarter with a 12-5 run. That gave the Tigers a 19-13 advantage at halftime.
WL-Salem carried that momentum into the third quarter with a 14-7 run, which stretched their lead to a 34-20 score. Alder was able to outscore WL-Salem 14-6 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to catch the Tigers.
Selena Weaver carried the Tiger offense with 12 points and Aubrey Williams and Grace Estes each had eight points.
The junior varsity game saw WL-Salem dominate Jonathan Alder 45-3. Chaley Wade led the Tigers with 10 points. WL-Salem hosts Versailles on Monday in a non-league game.
