West Liberty-Salem’s girls and boys track and field teams opened the Ohio Heritage Conference meet with a bang Monday at Mechanicsburg.
The Tiger girls are leading the host Indians 38-36 in the North division team standings. Fairbanks is third with 22 points, Northeastern is fourth with 11 points, while Triad and West Jefferson are tied for fifth with eight points each.
The Panthers are leading the Tigers 25-23 in the boys North division. M’burg is sitting in third with 15 points, the Jets are fourth with 14 points, the Roughriders are fifth with 10 points and the Cardinals are sixth with four points.
Four of 17 events were scored on Monday with the OHC meet concluding on Thursday.
WL-Salem’s girls and boys 3,200 relay teams both won OHC titles and set new league records. The girls 3,200 relay of Katelyn Stapleton, Madison Bahan, Ashley Yoder and Megan Adams won with a record time of 9:28.2.
The boys 3,200 relay team of Isaac Brown, Tate Yoder, Dylan Lauck and Josh Spinner won with a record time of 8:18.63.
Selena Weaver also won an OHC title in the discus for the girls with a toss of 106-2.
In other girls field event finals, Lena Kauffman was second in the pole vault (7-0), Mandilyn Weaver was fourth in the high jump (4-8), Tina Douthwaite was fourth in the pole vault (6-6), Claire Longshore was fifth in the high jump (4-2) and Kenzie Bahan was sixth in the discus (77-1).
For WL-Salem’s boys, Trevor Berry was second in the shot put (43-5.75) and Tyler Douthwaite was fourth in the long jump (17-10.25).
Advancing to the finals for WL-Salem’s girls were Emily Hollar in the 200 and 400, Grace Estes and Kaylee LeVan in the 100, Madison Bahan in the 400 and Mallory Bostick in the 200.
Qualifying to Thursday’s finals for the Tiger boys were Jace Wade and Dylan Glunt in the 100 and 200 and Brown and Logan Phillips in the 400.
