It was a good start for the area’s athletes at the Central Buckeye Conference meet Tuesday at Indian Lake High School.
Ben Logan’s boys are already running away with the Mad River division and lead with 50.5 points after scoring four events. Northwestern is second with 30 points and Indian Lake is sitting in third with 19 points.
Bellefontaine’s boys are holding off London 44-40 to lead the Kenton Trail division through five events.
The Raider girls are on top of the Mad River division with 31 points after scoring three events, the Warriors are currently second with 24 points and the Lakers are sitting in third with 20 points.
Jonathan Alder is off to a sizable lead in the Kenton Trail girls division with 47 points, while Bellefontaine is currently in second with 26 points.
The CBC meet concludes Friday at Indian Lake with field events starting at 4:30 p.m. and running events starting at 5 p.m.
Several area athletes won individual divisional titles Tuesday.
Headlining that group in the Mad River division were the Ben Logan girls 3,200 relay of Georgia Bates, Mylee Boysel, Kerry Copenhaver and Dani Widmark with a winning time of 10:45.2, which also set a new CBC Mad River division record.
Also winning for the Lady Raiders was Ella Studebaker in the high jump (5-0).
Ben Logan’s boys had wins in four Mad River events Tuesday. Claiming titles were Jace Wical in the pole vault (13-0), Davontae Fahle in the long jump (19-5), Marshall Jackson in the discus (141-4) and the 3,200 relay of Blake Rhoades, Tucker Munz, Tayte Williamson and Keaghan Stahler (8:55.9).
Bellefontaine’s girls saw Katie Pool take the top spot in the Kenton Trail shot put (33-9 1/2). The Chieftain boys saw Ethan Yoder win the Kenton Trail pole vault title (12-6).
Ben Logan’s boys had three other placers on Tuesday. Gabe Hemmelgarn took second in the discus (132-10), Alec Rodenberger was fifth in the long jump (17-6) and Evan Carpenter took sixth in the pole vault (9-0).
For Indian Lake, Dustin Franks was second in the long jump (19-2 3/4), Bradan Rettig was third in the discus (122-0), Ethan Knife was fifth in the discus (102-4), Ryan Culp was fifth in the pole vault (9-0) and Caiden Gauntt was sixth in the long jump (17-5 1/4).
Bellefontaine’s boys had several runner-up finishes. Those came from Micah Fogan in the discus (134-9), Ethan Yoder in the long jump (18-8) and the 3,200 relay of Max Varner, Gavin Wilson, Justin Carper and Connor Skidmore (8:38.8). Skidmore was also third in the 1,600 (4:41.3) and Ethan Akers took fourth in the discus (111-8).
The Lady Raiders saw Isabel Henderson take second in the high jump (4-8), Alanna Gibson finish fifth in the shot put (30-4 1/4) and Izzy Heater finish sixth in the shot put (29-2 1/2).
For the Laker girls, the 3,200 relay of KaiLea Miller, Jalan Martin, Chloe Sparks and Ava Huffman were second (11:06.6), Allexxie West was third in the high jump (4-6), Grace Pequignot was fourth in the shot put (30-5) and Huffman took fifth in the high jump (4-4).
The Chieftain girls added four other placers on Tuesday. Carmen Shumaker was runner-up in the shot put (31-7), Ashlyn Gonterman took fourth in the high jump (4-6), the 3,200 relay of Montanna Buck, Emma Middaugh, Taylor McCafferty and Ella Reier finished fourth (11:31.6) and Middaugh came in sixth in the high jump (4-4).
