West Liberty-Salem’s boys basketball team pulled out a 55-53 win over host Fairlawn on Saturday in a non-league meeting. The Tigers improve to 3-1 on the season and the Jets slide to 1-1.
The two teams were deadlocked at 14-14 after the opening quarter and the score was tied 22-22 entering halftime.
The third quarter saw WL-Salem edge Fairlawn 12-10 to give the Tigers a 34-32 advantage.
It continued to be nip-and-tuck in the final quarter as the Tigers were able to fight off the Jets to get the win.
Owen Johnson paced the Tiger offense with 15 points, Nick Burden had 14 points, Logan Saylor tallied 13 points and Tanner LeVan added nine points.
In junior varsity action, WL-Salem edged Fairlawn 41-39. Miles Hostetler led the Tigers with 17 points and Andrew Kimball had 16 points. WL-Salem travels to Fairbanks on Tuesday.
