Bellefontaine’s boys and girls swim teams opened the season by defeating Springfield Shawnee in a dual meet on Saturday at the Hilliker Y.
The Chieftain girls cruised past the Braves 115-59, while the Chieftain boys beat the Braves 79-26.
“I am very proud of our team for adjusting to the differences today and continuing to compete well,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “All of our swimmers swam strong after a tough week of conditioning and showed their true excitement to be back in the pool racing.”
Recording individual wins for the Bellefontaine girls were Abby Kite in the 50 freestyle (27.7) and 100 butterfly (1:13.4), Sarah Fulmer in the 200 freestyle (2:21.7) and 100 backstroke (1:09.8), Morgan Henry in the 200 individual medley (2:29.3) and the 100 freestyle (1:00.9), Joslyn Robinson in the 100 breaststroke (1:28.3) and Vivian Eader in the 500 freestyle (7:40.8).
First-place relays for the girls were the 200 medley relay of Henry, Robinson, Kite and Fulmer (2:07.7), the 200 freestyle relay of Samantha Starkey, Olivia Ullom, Gabby Stolly and Olivia Eader (2:06.6) and the 400 freestyle relay of Fulmer, Robinson, Kite and Henry (4:19.5).
Bellefontaine’s boys saw individual wins from Lucas Harrington in the 100 butterfly (1:08.5) and 100 backstroke (1:14.4), Blake McDonald in the 100 freestyle (1:03.3), Aidan Mifsud in the 200 individual medley (2:41.01) and David Moody in the 500 freestyle (31.7).
Winning relays included the 200 medley relay of McDonald, Mifsud, Harrington and John Fulmer (2:11.4), the 200 freestyle relay of Cooper Harmon, Fulmer, Moody and McDonald (2:12.6) and the 400 freestyle relay of Harmon, Harrington, Mifsud and Moody (4:51.5). Bellefontaine travels to Kenton on Tuesday for a tri-meet with Botkins.
