Thomas V. Schoff, 76, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Dec. 2, 2017, surrounded by his wife, Collette, and his loving family.
Tom was born April 9, 1941, in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Bill and Geraldine Schoff.
Tom spent his career in law enforcement serving proudly on the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and working for Columbus Children’s Hospital, the State of Ohio and the McDonald Funeral Home. He is a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, served on various local boards and was president of the Mechanicsburg Village Council.
Tom was a 33rd Degree Mason and past potentate of the Antioch Shrine of Dayton. He received the 2017 Champaign County Shriner of the Year Award. He was also elected vice president of the Antioch Shrine Foundation. Tom served as a member of the York Rite, member of the Star Chapter 126 Royal Arch Masons, Imperial Captain Guard Aide Committee and Caroline Chapter 39 Order of Eastern Star. In the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Tom served in several capacities including ambassador and member of the Champaign County 32 Club. Tom was a member of the Royal Jesters Court 10, past president of the Champaign County Shrine Club, and member of the Logan County Shrine Club. Tom was also a Master Mason of Indian Lake Lodge 722 and was a current member of Mechanicsburg Lodge 113, serving as Worshipful Master in 1998.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, William “Bill” Schoff; and parents-in-law, Howard and Agnes Cretcher.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, Tom is survived by their children, Julie (Mike) Jones and grandchildren, Jordan and Jake Kielich and Evan and Nick Jones of Mechanicsburg; Cherie (Joshua) Moore and grandchildren, Elliott, Brookelyn, Katelyn, Ali and Lily of Mechanicsburg; Thomas B. (Mary) Schoff and grandchildren, Jackie Schoff of Sarasota, Fla., Casey (Janelle) Schoff, parents of Tom’s great-grandchildren, Riley, Carson and Madeline of Michigan; Tara (Rick) Whittaker and grandchildren, Dylan and Conner; Traci (Steve) Douberly and grandchildren, Regan and Spencer; Toni (Stan) Carter and grandchildren, Alexa McGowan and Cole McGowan; and brother-in-law, Dr. Keith (Gail) Cretcher of California.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, 50 N. Main St., Mechanicsburg, preceding a celebration of Tom’s life at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Mimi Ault officiating and Masonic honors opening the service.
