A 17-year-old Waynesfield girl was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Route 33 at Sunnyside Avenue following the Indian Lake fireworks display Saturday night.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department report Madison Buffenbarger was with a group of friends attempting to cross U.S. 33 to get something to eat. Madison and two friends reportedly looked left, but failed to look right before attempting to run a cross the road. She was then struck by a westbound 2014 Ford Edge driven by Ted J McCabe, 59, of Englewood. The impact threw the girl down the road.
Officers were no more than 50 feet away directing post firework traffic when they heard the collision. They were able to quickly provide first aid and keep Madison protected while other traffic continued to drive around them.
The teen was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where she remains in serious condition.
McCabe was not injured. His vehicle sustained minor damage.
Assisting at the scene were the Washington Township Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Indian Lake EMS, and Indian Joint Fire District.
