Two 15-year-old Bellefontaine High School boys were charged after one attacked another student.
Sergio R. Ramos, 441 W. Chillicothe Ave., faces a delinquency assault charge and Tony Thomas, 320 N. Elm St., is charged with delinquency complicity to assault.
Around 1 p.m., a fight was reported in the cafeteria. However, administrators quickly learned the victim, also a 15-year-old boy, did not fight back.
One of Bellefontaine Police Department’s school resource officers watched surveillance video in which Sergio was observed talking with Tony prior to attacking the victim.
When Tony moved to block the view of an administrator, Sergio ran up behind the victim, grabbed him in a choke hold and flung the victim from his chair onto the floor. Sergio proceeded to climb on top of the boy and began throwing punches.
When questioned, Sergio admitted he planned the assault for several days and asked Tony to distract school staff. Tony separately admitted he agreed to help Sergio.
The officer charged Tony with complicity, noting Tony did nothing to stop the assault and his lack of respect for the school and other students.
Both were lodged in the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center.
