With successful toy and clothing drives for hospitalized children and veterans and the foundation of an agricultural society for online high school students already to her credit, Monica Slaven is looking forward to a new set of challenges that accompany the 2016 Logan County Fair Queen title.

“I’m very excited and extremely grateful,” she said after receiving the crown from outgoing fair queen Hannah Clayton. “I totally didn’t expect it.”
The 2016 court is rounded out by runner-up, Hannah Gross, her younger brother Hunter Gross as prince and Shyanne McClintick as princess.
Monica, an 18-year-old graduate of the Ohio Virtual Academy who plans to study agribusiness at Urbana University, said she wants to improve on the traditions of the fair while not neglecting the service that is an important part of her life.
“I’d really just like to help improve the fair and make next year the best year ever,” she said. “I hope to still be able to do a bunch of service work. It’s really hard, but it’s something that’s important to me and I want to be able to do it along with my fair queen responsibilities.”
