Work to chip seal 2.3 miles of the Simon Kenton Bike Path from the Carter Avenue parking lot south to County Road 199 is set to start Monday, about six months after an allvolunteer group put together $31,000 in funding.
“On the third of November last year, an individual offered an $8,000 challenge grant to the Simon Kenton Pathfinders,” charter member Carmen Scott said. “He gave us until Dec. 31.”
Bike path supports opened their purses and wallets and donated $18,000. With challenge grant, the group had $26,000 for the project which includes paving the trailhead parking lot.
The Pathfinders contributed almost $6,000 to cover the cost of extending the paving to C.R. 199.
