Russell H. Nicely, 86, of Lakeview, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine.
He was born in Dayton on Jan. 6, 1931, a son of the late George A. and Lillian R. Smith Nicely. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol Jeanne Balsamo.
On June 17, 1960, in Dayton, he married the former Janet M. Mikesell and she survives in Lakeview. Also surviving is a son, Stephen A. (Cathy) Nicely of Lakeview; and nieces, Cheri (Mike) Beecroft, Linda Balsamo and Jan (Bill) Young.
Russell was a 1949 graduate of Stivers High School in Dayton and he graduated from the University of Dayton with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He was a school teacher at Stiver’s High School and that is where he met his wife. He was a senior class adviser and was inducted into the Stivers Hall of Fame in 2016.
Russell loved to cook, garden, read and do crossword puzzles and belonged to Eagles 3615 and Moose Lodge, both at Indian Lake. He loved his family and extended family and had lived at Indian Lake and spent his winters in Englewood, Fla.
Per Mr. Nicely’s wishes he was cremated and a celebration of life service will be at a later date.
