Robert Webster Core, 76, of Columbus and formerly of Lima and Bellefontaine, passed away at 8:38 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy.
He was born in Bellefontaine on March 14, 1941, to the late Edward K. and Dorothy (Webster) Core.
He is survived by his son, David M. (Amanda) Core; daughter, Rachel S. Core; grandsons, Caleb B. and Sebastian J. Core; former wife, Frances Early Core; sisters, Ellen Core Perry and Nancy Core Wisse; sister-in-law, Joyce A. Core; brother-in-law, Harold (Sue Ann) Early; nieces, Barb Neff, Liz Core, Laura (Vinh) Nguyen and Lisa Perry; nephews, Greg (Karen) Wisse, Geoff (Lori) Wisse and Tony (Heather) Core. Along with his parents, a brother, Edward K. Core Jr. preceded him in death.
Robert was a 1959 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and U.S. Army veteran. He had bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Ohio State University and additional course work from the University of Dayton. Robert sang tenor in OSU’s glee club and alumni club. He also was a part of his church choirs at Crestview and Central Presbyterian Churches, and West Elm United Church of Christ. Robert enjoyed karaoke and was a singing contest winner on several cruise ships. Robert had over 3,000 volunteer hours at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He never saw a stranger and made no enemies. Robert conversed in many languages, such as Italian, French and Swahili as well as English. He was a showman of Hereford cattle and traveled to many county fairs and even was grand champion at the State Fair.
Pastor Carol Bogaards will officiate a funeral service at noon Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where visitation will be one hour priore. Burial will be in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
