Robert “Bob” Norman Rabenstein, 86, of West Liberty, OH, passed away on November 16, 2021, surrounded by family.
Bob was born in Dayton, OH on March 25, 1935 to Robert E. and Myrtle (Dempsey) Rabenstein, who precede him in death. He attended Goshen College. He served his 1W service through the Mennonite Board of Missions, which is where he met his loving wife of 64 years, Janice Shrock. He was posted to the Mennonite Children’s Home in West Liberty for his 1W service, and he and Janice settled there after their marriage on April 14, 1957. Bob worked in construction and was self-employed for most of his working life. He founded Rabenstein Electric and ran the Mennonite Aid Plan Insurance Agency. He attended Bethel Mennonite Church and most recently, McKee’s Creek Church where he faithfully served his Lord in various committees and positions within each church. Bob was committed to supporting his community and local businesses, and served on the Board of Trustees of Adriel School as well as the Treasurer for the Logan County Chapter of Gideon’s International.
Bob enjoyed travelling and seeing the wonders of God’s creation. He loved boating and spent many long afternoons on Lake Cumberland and Norris Lake teaching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to waterski. He loved family gatherings and always looked for opportunities to make homemade ice-cream and barbequed chicken.
In addition to his wife, Bob is lovingly remembered by his children, Barbara L. (J. Scott) Schultz, Susan N. (Wesley) Krabill, Robert J. (Theresa) Rabenstein, Stephen D. (Sandy) Rabenstein, and Anne E. (Ryan) Keene, as well as 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, and his brother Lawrence D. (Elaine) Rabenstein.
