Gene C. Oakley, 86, of Santa Fe, OH passed away peacefully, Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at his home.
Gene was born on May 16, 1935, in Santa Fe, a son of the late Cecil T. and Elsie Cummins Oakley. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Oakley, a granddaughter, Holly Oakley, and four siblings, Cecil H. Oakley, Ronald Oakley, Jimmy J. Oakley, and Judy K. Trent.
Gene married Shirley Longbrake on August 19, 1953, and she survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Kathy (Jeremy Tidd) McVety of Santa Fe, five grandchildren, Erica Oakley, Tim (Chelsea) McVety, Jenna (Jesse) Kite, Brad (Sara) Oakley and Jaime (Steve) Spofford, 10 great grandchildren, Kaya, Aliyah, Ella, Blake, Zeke, Luke, Jace, Lindsey, Stevie, and Makenna, family friend and caretaker, Vickie Morris and several nieces and nephews.
Gene was a 1953 graduate of Stokes Local School. He retired from Airstream after 48 years in 1997. Gene was a member of Grace Chapel Christian Union Church in Santa Fe. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing and take his trips to Michigan for mushroom hunting, and watching racing. Gene was mechanically inclined, who could fix most anything, and was an excellent wood craftsman. Gene loved being around his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dan Ledley will begin graveside services at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, OH.
