Ridgemont Board of Education members approved the upcoming kindergarten screening dates at their recent meeting, and also handled personnel items for the upcoming school year and set school fees.
Kindergarten screening is set for Aug. 11 to 13, and members approved payment for Cathy Lowery, Stacy Sparkman and Danielle Ward to run the screening.
For those who have not yet registered their student for kindergarten, registration takes place online by uploading forms to Final Forms at cindy.brown.
In personnel matters, Anthony Fink was hired as seventh- through ninth-grade social studies teacher for the 2021-22 school year. He his teaching degree from Urbana University and is from the Zanesfield area, officials said.
Members also accepted the resignations from Shelby Faulkner, agricultural teacher, and Dan McCulloch, junior high/senior high band and choir teacher at the end of the 2020-21 school year. Included in their resignations were their supplemental contracts for the 2021-22 school year, including FFA adviser for Shelby Faulkner and summer music program, jazz band director and pep band director for Dan McCulloch.
School fees for the 2021-2022 school year were approved as follows: kindergarten and first-grade school fees, $30; second and third-grade, $35; fourth- through sixth-grade, $45 per student; grades 7-12 technology fee, $50 per student in each grade level; 9-12 art class, $22 per student/per class; class dues for all seventh- through 12th-graders, $25; FFA dues, $25; 5-12 grade band instrument rental fee for all students using school instruments, $25; and miscellaneous band charges, at cost.
Wednesday, August 18, will be the first day of school for the upcoming school year.
There is no school Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of Labor Day, and also no school Sept. 7 to 10 for the Hardin County Fair.
The district also has set two-hour delays: Sept. 28, Nov. 2, Feb. 1, March 8 and May 10.
In other action, the board:
• accepted supplemental resignations from Toni McKee, assistant volleyball, and extended that position to Malana Huffman while accepting her freshman volleyball coach resignation;
• extended the supplemental contract for the 2021-2022 school year: Lucretia Fenwick, swing choir coordinator; Malana Huffman, volleyball assistant; Justice McGue, junior high football; Mike McGue, junior high assitant football; Brian Claybaugh, weight room coordinator;
• an agreement with the Midwest Regional ESC was approved for a social liaison;
• approved the membership dues with the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding;
• approved the donation of 20 football helmets, no longer certified, to the Ridgemont Activities Boosters; and
• thanked the following donors: Trish Lones, donation of flavor ice to second-grade class; Ann McElfresh, volunteering to teach the sixth- grade art students and donate the wood for project;.Trisha Lones’s donation of classroom snacks to third-grade; Jennifer and Scott Russell’s donation of stuffed animals for fall festival; Lowe’s donation of cleaning supplies.
The next meeting is 5 p.m. Thursday, July 22.
