Anthony J. Jordan, 37, of Springfield; Stevee M. Walker, 28, of Lewis Center; and Vincent R. Phelps, 29, of North Lewisburg, each were charged with trafficking in drugs and possession of methamphetamine relating to a traffic stop Saturday evening in West Liberty.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 68 near Township Road 175 about 8:20 p.m. observed a vehicle with issues with its rear brake lights and also a cracked windshield.
A traffic stop was initiated in the area of State Route 245 near Lions Park. The driver, Jordan, told deputies he did not have a valid license. A West Liberty Police Department officer also responded to the scene.
Upon a registration check, deputies found that the vehicle did not match the license plates. Jordan and Phelps were asked to step out of the vehicle and during a pat down of Phelps’ person, deputies recovered a hypodermic syringe.
K9 Thor completed a free air sniff of the vehicle and indicated on the vehicle. During the stop, deputies seized several bags of suspected methamphetamine, a container with suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, suboxone pills, meth pipes, small baggies, a digital scales and several cell phones.
Walker told deputies that she was having trouble breathing during the stop and requested to use her inhaler. She was also medically cleared at the scene by Macochee EMS personnel.
All three defendants were placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail. Upon arrival at the jail, Phelps turned over a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue that had been hidden in his waist band.
Additional charges of fictitious registration, driving under 12-point suspension and driving under court suspension were sent to the Bellefontaine Municipal Court.
No injuries reported in car, buggy crash
Deputies responded to a report of a car and Amish horse and buggy crash about 7:45 p.m. Saturday on County Road 13 near State Route 235.
Deputies report Brandee J. Moon, 26, of Bellefontaine, was operating a westbound 2016 Chevrolet Cruze and failed to maintain assured clear distance while approaching a westbound buggy operated by Solomon A. Eicher, 56, of DeGraff. The car struck the left rear side of the buggy.
Damage was moderate to the car and no damage was reported to the buggy. No citations were listed with the crash report.
