With war raging in the Pacific and Europe, Betty Bondi decided to leave the safety and surety of working at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton to join the Army as a nurse.

For her and a coworker, the right thing to do was to serve the country during World War II.
She went off to basic training at Ft. Knox, Ky., not knowing her journey would take her to a luxurious resort where she would meet her husband.
Last week, the Logan County Friendly Senior Center honored the WWII veteran with a Quilt of Valor. The center’s quilters have made quilts in the past for local veterans and decided one of the four made this year should go to the Hardin County resident.
