After a sluggish start, Riverside’s boys basketball team went on the attack in the third quarter against Bradford and rolled to a 59-47 victory for their first win of the season.
“We got off to a rocky start and were a little chaotic on offense,” said RHS head coach Seth Bodenmiller. “Once we settled down in the second half, we were able to make some big plays on both ends of the court. Even though we looked pretty sloppy, it’s nice to get one in the win column. We know that we still have a lot of work to do.”
Riverside (1-3) led 9-6 after the first quarter and outscored the Railroaders 16-13 in the second quarter. That gave the Pirates a 25-19 lead entering halftime.
The offense caught fire in the third quarter as Riverside went on a 23-9 run. That created a 48-28 cushion.
Riverside stayed in control in the final period to wrap up the win.
John Zumberger fueled the Pirates with 15 points, Wade Auflick had 12 points with 10 rebounds and Kaden Burk tallied 11 points.
The junior varsity game also went to Riverside 56-34. Ethan Jackson and Landon Stewart both had 13 points to lead the Pirates.
Riverside travels to Lehman Catholic on Friday for its next Northwest Central Conference contest.
