Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are asking the public’s help identifying a man suspected of defacing a storefront Tuesday, May 14, inside the Main Street Marketplace, 130 S. Main St.
The individual can be seen on video peeling a decal letter off of the business’s logo inside the marketplace, according to a police report. Officers were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to the shopping mall on a report of vandalism to one of the businesses.
Upon their arrival, officers spoke to the property manager who showed police video footage of the man, described in his late 50s or or early-to-mid 60s wearing a blue ball cap and black jacket.
In the video, the man is seen walking past the business once and throwing away trash into a garbage can inside the shop. Later, the suspect walks by again and this time turns around and looks at the lettering of the logo on the outside of the window of the business.
Footage then shows the suspect peeling off a letter from one of the words in the logo off of the window.
Contact was made with the business owner. At the time of the report, the victim told officers she didn’t wish to pursue criminal charges against the suspect, but did want him instructed to stay away from her business.
Investigation is ongoing.
