Benjamin Logan’s wrestling team started the season with a third-palce finish at the Sidney Invitational on Saturday.
The Raiders placed 11 wrestlers and crowned two individual champions.
Allen East won the 10-team tournament with 304 points, Versailles was runner-up with 287.5 points, Ben Logan was third with 212 points and Tecumseh was fourth with 203 points.
Winning their weight class for the Raiders were Owen O’Brien at 113 pounds and Steele Boysel at 170 pounds.
O’Brien and Wapakoneta’s Bryce Knapke tied with 4-1 records on the day, but O’Brien took first at 113 pounds on tiebreaker criteria. He had three pins and a technical fall on the day.
Boysel, a returning state qualifier, dominated the 170-pound weight class. He had three pins and a tech fall before beating Allen East’s Blake Hershberger 10-4 in the finals.
At 152 pounds, Joel Abbott rolled to the finals with four pins. He lost to Van Wert’s Gabe Steyer by a 16-1 technical fall.
Cadman Roose also had a strong day at 285 pounds with three pins and a decision. He lost to Allen East’s Brennan Davies by decision.
Placing third for the Raiders were Kade Thomas (106), Jayden Sturgell (120), Connor Whitt (182) and Noah Clark (195).
Taking fifth was Levi Hunter (126), while sixth-place finishes came from Chase LeVan as an extra (120) and Henry Myers (145).
Ben Logan travels to Coldwater on Thursday for a dual meet.
