Owen D. Poling, 90, of Broadwa, died Friday evening, Dec. 30, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville following several months of failing health.
He was owner and operator of Owen Poling Trucking which he started in 1956. Having a love for farming, he also farmed during these years. He was also retired from the U.S. Army serving both as an active duty soldier and reserve soldier. His service duty of 32 years spanned World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He was a longtime member of the VFW Post 9909 in Raymond. He was a very social person and enjoyed visiting with all he came in contact with.
He was born Feb. 19, 1926, in the family home near Raymond to the late Joseph M. and Helena Poling, and he also was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Verl and Flora Poling.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years the former Dorothy L. Roberts, whom he married June 4, 1948, in the home of the bride’s mother. He is also survived by his children, Michael L. (Kathy Goldsberry) Poling of Plain City, Margo L. (Gene) Mathys of West Mansfield and Cindy A. Hopkins of Marion; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling is from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, where funeral services begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, with the Rev. Warren Goble officiating. Burial follows in the Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg, with full military hours provided by the Union County Honor Guard.
