A retire and rehire package for City Engineer Tim Notestine was approved Tuesday by a 6-1 vote.
Bellefontaine City Council Finance Chairman Zeb Wagner was the only member to oppose the package even though he acknowledged it preserves “a wealth of knowledge” for the city.
Wagner did not state why he voted against the deal.
Under the deal, Notestine will retired Jan. 31 with a rehire date of Feb. 1 at 75 percent of the fulltime pay. The reduction from $46.16 per hour to $34.62 will save the city more than $29,600 a year.
Notestine also will have to cash in all 720 hours of vacation and half a year of accumulated sick leave. He will restart at zero hours for both and accrue leave at the normal rate for his position and experience.
