A New Richland farmer is asking township and state officials for permission to use his farm to raise and butcher chickens for sale to local retailers or restaurants.
“It’s not going to be anything the public will walk into, but I would like to raise a few extra meat chickens for sale possibly to small meat markets,” Kenneth Fehr said of his plan. “It’s a small family thing. I don’t want to get in over my head and be overwhelmed because I do have a full-time job.”
In the first step of the process, Mr. Fehr has filed for a conditional use permit with the Richland Township Board of Zoning Appeals that would grant his 2999 Township Road 105 property a commercial use in an agricultural zone, Zoning Officer Troy Jenkins said. That request will be heard at a 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, public hearing at 615 N. Center St., Belle Center.
